On behalf of the European Hockey Federation, I am delighted to welcome everyone to the magnificent facilities of Pla del Bonaire, the home of Club Egara. Club Egara are no strangers in organising major hockey events, the last one being the hugely successful A Division of the Cup Winners Cup in 1991. I have little doubt that this weekend will be the same and I am sure we can all look forward to an exciting and well organised tournament.
This year we have a set of very experienced teams competing for the ultimate title of European Club Champions and I am certain that we will enjoy a very competitive tournament.
This is a very busy weekend for hockey in Europe, with other Club Championship tournaments being held in Milan and Vienna for men, and Moravske Toplice in Slovenia for women. One of the men's Cup Winners Cup tournaments is also being played in Wettingen. Due to the increasing difficulty in finding clubs willing to host, it was necessary to hold the other two women's Club Championship tournaments at Easter; these were played at 's-Hertogenbosch and Milan. I feel I must draw this sad fact to your attention, because without hosts there can be no tournaments.
Finally, all of us should remember that events such as this do not just happen. They require a lot of hard work and dedication. I am only too well aware of the tremendous efforts that have been made by Lluis Freixa and his hard working committee to ensure that you all have a memorable time here in Spain. On your behalf, as well as on behalf of the European Hockey Federation, I sincerely thank all those involved in the organising and hosting of this tournament and wish them and all of those taking part a happy, successful and, above all, enjoyable tournament.
Bonne chance, Alain Danet

We will see history repeating itself with the European Hockey Championship, the most important Club Competition in the world. In 1970, the Egara Club organised the Second Edition of the Tournament. It started thanks to the efforts of many hockey enthusiasts from various European countries, a wonderful adventure that today is 31 years old. It has certainly been worth the effort and we mustn't forget history.
It is, of course, a pleasure for us to have the best teams in Europe as guests in our Club. The City of Terrassa will be the European hockey capital once more and we will try to live up to the slogan "Terrassa is the People's City".
We are looking forward to seeing the best hockey and enjoying the friendship that hockey brings.
Thank you to the European Hockey Federation for giving us this opportunity and Thank you to the Technical Delegate, Officials and Umpires for their collaboration and we wish everybody a happy stay here in Terrassa.
